EVENT ORGANIZERS

Event organizers wishing to host a Level 1 Duathlon or Triathlon event (whether it be a road event or off-road event or combination), must apply to the District for event sanctioning. A  Sanctioning Application Form is available that lists all the requirements to host a duathlon / triathlon.

A Level 1 event refers to any Standard Distance and/or Less than Standard Distance Event.

Members / Affiliates

There are four types of memberships to the Association:

Individual Members (Licensed Athletes)   –   Clubs   –   Academies   –   Teams

Individual memberships are valid for 12 months from the date of purchasing a TSA License (see below).  All other memberships reviewed annually before or at the time of the AGM.

COMPETITION RULES and Technical Officials

In triathlon, athletes should not be permitted an advantage not intended by a rule; and should not conduct him/herself in a dangerous way. Every “wrong doing” has a sanction attached.  Technical Officials are present at all sanctioned events and ensure that competitions are fair and safe. They base their judgments on whether an advantage, not intended by the Rules, has been gained

PARATriathlon

Thankfully, most Event Organizers structure their events in such a way that it enables ParaTriathletes to take part. A ParaTriathlete is any athlete who has an underlying Health Condition that has a pathological cause which leads to a permanent disability. ParaTriathletes apply to TSA  to be classified as a Paratriathlete by supplying TSA with the medical Diagnosis. Specific ParaTriathlon Rules apply to ParaTriathletes and competitions.

ANTI-DOPING and Keeping Triathlon Clean

Western Cape Triathlon supports efforts made to ensure and encourage athletes to compete drug-free and say no to doping. The Drug-Free Sport Act* gives the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport jurisdiction to carry out drug testing.

APPLYING TO BE AN ELITE

An Elite license gives recognition to excellence and allow athletes to compete for the highest honours. TSA has introduced a second category of elite status (for triathlon athletes only), namely Continental Elite. This status refers to senior athletes competing in the standard (Olympic) triathlon distance. Athletes in the Western Cape who wish to apply for an Elite Racing Licence, must complete the Elite Licence Application Form and submit it to their District. The District proposes the athlete to TSA.
