CTTA / SA Champs Clash:
With the CTTA District Championships (Blue Lagoon Triathlon, 12 Feb 2022) and TSA National Sprint Championships (Bloemfontein, 13 Feb 2022) taking place on the same weekend, CTTA wishes to advise as follows:
The CTTA District Championships at BLT includes Standard and Sprint Champs for AG 20+, Sprint Champs for Juniors (16-19) and Super-Sprint Champs for Juniors (12-15). Your Age Group is as per your age on 31 Dec 2022.
The Bloemfontein Event includes the categories as mentioned above.
Implications for the various Age Groups are explained below:
Senior Age Groupers 20+:
Triathletes, who were selected for Triathlon Standard and Sprint Worlds in 2021, are automatically selected for the same World Champ event in 2022. So, they don’t need to do SA’s in 2022, in order to go to Sprint Worlds 2022. Senior athletes can therefore decide to do either SA Sprint Champs of CTTA Champs. CTTA Selectors will use the SA Sprint Champs and CTTA Standard Champs to select the team for TSA Standard Championships, which takes place in March 2022, in PE.
Juniors are selected for Continental and International Championships by the TSA High Performance Committee (HPC), who will use Cup and Championship events to evaluate athletes. Juniors (16-19) who are focussing on Continental Champs, World Champs and Commonwealth Games for 2022, will therefore have to do the Cup event in Bloem AND the Champs event in PE. Other Juniors can decide if they want to do the Africa Cup event or CTTA Champs. CTTA Selectors will use both events as qualifiers for SA Champs.
Your SA Champ event for 2022 is in Bloem. It is therefore up to the athletes to decide which championship they would like to enter. CTTA Selectors will use both events as qualifiers for future events, as required.
It stands to reason that, to be eligible for the CTTA 2022 Championship positions, in any AG, athletes must do the CTTA Championship event.
Applications for the CTTA team to represent at the Bloemfontein Cup and Championships, are now open at:
Athletes must please apply ASAP. Applications will close on Friday, 21 January 2022.
Applications for the PE Cup & Championships will open after CTTA Champs at BLT.
