Historic Simon’s Town comes alive

The brand-new Cape Point Triathlon lands in historic Simon’s Town on 25 October 2026! With Ultra, Standard, and Sprint distances, solo or team, there’s a race for every level — from first-timers to elite athletes. Swim and finish both sit in the heart of this old naval town (established 1743), promising a buzzing race-day atmosphere.

You’ve probably visited Boulders Beach for the penguins among those enormous Seychelles-style rocks. You’ve likely ridden the Cape Town Cycle Tour through Simon’s Town’s dreamy coves and up the spectacular Smitswinkel climb, with False Bay spread below and whales or baboons sometimes in view. Maybe you’ve even run the Redhill or Peninsula marathons along this coastline. It’s a pristine stretch of coast just 30 minutes from Cape Town, where surfers, antique hunters, and tourists all come to stroll, swim, and eat by the water.

Racing starts on a Kona-style jetty, bikes racked and ready. Swimmers descend into calm, clear water and head toward Long Beach, past the naval base, for a one-lap swim back into the yacht basin — warships on the skyline, crowds on the shore.

The bike leg needs no introduction: for 40+ years it’s hosted the world’s biggest timed bike race. An undulating start leads into the climb up ‘Smits’ — steady, not brutal — followed by fast, flowing descents past Cape Point, out to a turnaround near Red Hill above Scarborough, then home along the closed road.

Back on the jetty, the run heads south past the Admiral’s residence along flat, fast shoreline toward Glencairn and back. Multi-lap athletes get a hero’s welcome through the music and crowds at Jubilee Square.

With incredible restaurants and charming places to stay, this is a weekend away worth cherishing.
